Little Girl Drawing

This pencil drawing,”Little Girl Drawing” was drawn in 2009. The photograph I used to render this drawing was taken by professional photographer, Tracy Wright Carvo.Tracy sent me a number of photos that she took and I drew them for her. Her portraits are very beautiful!

Tracy added some of the drawings that I have done to her web site’s blog. For this drawing I used charcoal for the eyes and background. For the rest I used graphite.

Old Man Drawing

This pencil drawing,”Old Man Drawing” was drawn in 2002.It was one of the very first pencil drawing that I have done of people. Before that, I thought drawing people was much to difficult and did not think I could drawing something that looked this realistic. This old man drawing was also one of the first drawings I did using charcoal. Although I found that charcoal was harder to keep in one spot in the page, it worked much better for shading and forced me to draw more bold, confident lines. The man in this drawing is busy whittling, although several people think it looks like he is sleeping.

This portrait was drawn using the original artwork of Lee Hammond. Lee is a professional illustrator and art instructor. She has illustrated many of the NASCAR drivers and sells prints on her website. Lee has a number of drawing books available for you to purchase. I highly recommend them!

If you are interested in purchasing one of her books, I own her 15th anniversary “how to draw LIFELIKE PORTRAITS from PHOTOGRAPHS” and really like it. In it Lee teaches the “Hammond Blended Pencil Technique”. I have learned a lot from her books, and I hope you can too.

Girl With a Crown Drawing

For this drawing, Girl with a Crown, I used only graphite. I asked Mandy if I could draw her photo because I love the expression on her face. She takes beautiful pictures.
